Sunday, May 9 Queer Conscience concludes with the Joe’s Pub debut of Brooklyn-based chamber pop group The Fancy. The creation of composer/songwriter duo Clara Latham and Seth Garrison, classically trained musicians with a love of popular forms, The Fancy merges chamber music and pop sensibilities with earnest song writing and dramatic flair. The band includes Amy Cimini (Till by Turning, Starring, Christy & Emily) on viola and Katherine Young (Till by Turning, the Nightingales, Anthony Braxton’s Falling River Quartet) on bassoon. Corey Dargel is a Texas-born, Brooklyn-based composer and songwriter whose gentle assault on pop and classical idioms creates a tension that pervades his music. He has performed on bills with Joanna Newsom, Owen Pallett, Grizzly Bear, the American Composers Orchestra, the International Contemporary Ensemble, and others. His third album, Someone Will Take Care of Me, comes out on May 25, 2010, on New Amsterdam Records. Cornelius Dufallo is a member of the string quartet Ethel and the director of the creative music ensemble Ne(x)tworks. He has worked artists including Ornette Coleman, Oliver Lake, Butch Morris, Anthony Coleman, Bryan Adams, Lenny Kravitz, and Queensryche. His solo album, Dream Streets, is out on the Innova label. |
